Drugs & Alcohol
Drug misuse is estimated to cost industry £800 million per year and rising.
Alcohol misuse is estimated to cost industry £3 billion per year through accidents, reduced productivity and absenteeism. Hangovers alone have been estimated to cost between £53 and £108 million per year. 1 in 4 accidents at work are alcohol related and a report from the British Medical Association says that 60% of workplace fatalities are alcohol related. Abuse can lead to impairment to work effectively.
The use of illicit substances, and the excessive use of alcohol, can cause real problems for employees. The abuse spans all sectors of industry at all levels, affecting safety, productivity, quality and – ultimately – profitability.
Your drug and alcohol policy should make a clear distinction between misconduct and ill-health. In the case of the latter, clearly identify the extent of the assistance provided by the company.
MOHS conducts Drug and Alcohol Screening using ‘Chain of Custody’ protocols. This method, whilst more time consuming, provides totally reliable, legally defensible results.
MOHS screening can be at:
- Pre – employment
- Randomly
- After an incident
- Where significant changes in behaviour or performance occur.
The screening can take place on your premises or at our home base.
The costs vary with collection system and tests required.
