Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)

Cost: £123 + VAT per person

Accidents happen, even when an environment is classed as low hazard. Our one day 'Emergency' first aid at work course is for first aiders, current and new, in workplaces risk-assessed as 'low hazard'.

The EFAW certificate that delegates earn on this course is valid for three years and only takes one day to learn. Here's what's covered:

EFAW Course Content Overview

Not all workplaces involve working at height, with heavy machinery and chemicals or wild animals. But just because there are few hazards where you work (and the risk of those hazards harming you is low), that doesn't mean you're immune to accidents.

Every organisation should have a qualified and current first aider. The breadth of knowledge and qualification they'll need by law will depend upon the results of a workplace risk assessment.

Where a risk assessment outcome is low hazard, legally businesses only need a first aider qualified in Emergency first aid. To ensure that you're covered, get yourself booked onto our EFAW course, which covers:

  • Role of the first aider;
  • Acting safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency/situation: assessment;
  • Recording incidents and accidents;
  • Preventing cross infection;
  • Use of available equipment;
  • Treating minor injuries:
    • cuts;
    • grazes;
    • burns;
    • scalds;
  • CPR;
  • Epilepsy;
  • Health and Safety (first aid) regulations.

It also provides instructions on dealing with casualties who are:

  • unconscious (including seizure);
  • wounded;
  • bleeding;
  • choking;
  • in shock.

What's NOT covered in the Emergency First Aid at Work syllabus

If you're unsure of which course is right for you, EFAW or Primary FAW, here's a list of what Emergency First Aid at Work DOESN'T cover:

  • fractures;
  • sprains and strains;
  • spinal injuries;
  • chest injuries;
  • eye injuries;
  • poisoning;
  • anaphylaxis;
  • heart attack;
  • stroke;
  • asthma;
  • diabetes.

The decision of which of the two courses is right for you ultimately lies with you. As well as the outcome of any risk assessment, you also have the demographic of your staff to think about, your organisational culture, non-employees and lone/remote workers, shift patterns and annual leave and any number of other impactful aspects unique to your business.

If you're concerned that this course, which covers the Emergency-only risks, will not satisfy your first aid needs, do consider switching up to the full 3-day Primary First Aid at Work course.
